What is the hottest gift for your loved one? A pet photography gift certificate! Get them before it’s too late!
Ollie (said with a lovely British accent) is well….stinkin’ cute. Remember puppy breath, super soft puppy fur, and puppy leaps and bounds? Ollie had the whole package and more on this pet photography photo session! I present to you….Ollie, the German Shepherd Puppy.
Thank you Ollie for a “Puppy Perfect” morning!
When you decide to have your pet professionally photographed, it’s an investment. You want to ensure that you hire the highest-quality photographer that will capture your desired images so you will have artwork of your furry family member to last a lifetime. Pet photography has been around since the camera was invented but pet photography as a profession only sprouted up in the last 20 years or so. Here are a few reasons why you should hire a photographer that specializes in pet photography: #1 – SpecialistsOccupational specialists have been around for ages. For example, physicians have specialized in areas of the human body since medicine existed. Would you have a podiatrist perform brain surgery on you? Hey – they are a doctor. Right? Yes, they are a doctor but do they specialize in your brain? Nope. I think I will pass on the brain surgery with a podiatrist. Pet photography is similar. A family photographer (Please note: I’m not knocking down family photographers AT ALL because most are talented and do amazing work!) can photograph your dog but would they get images that top someone that is a specialist? Maybe or Maybe not. If you ask me, I don’t want to waste my hard-earned money and I would go with the guaranteed specialist. #2 – PassionWould Anne Geddes have captured those moments with babies if she didn’t like babies? Probably not. Pet Photographers are passionate about pets and most of them love every moment with their furry clients. Their passion is seen through the lens and it rewards the client with stunning images. #3 – KnowledgeWe know your dog (okay, not as well as you). But there is a pretty good chance that we have photographed the same breed of dog that you own. If not, most pet photographers will scour the internet reading up on the dog breed and everything about them (as least that is what I do). Knowing about the breed BEFORE the session is crucial. A photo session with a border collie is very different from a photo session with a chihuahua. A well-trained border collie will respond to commands and can hold poses (if desired) for long periods of time. A chihuahua on the other hand is food motivated so stinky treats on hand is a must. (I apologize to anyone that has a border collie that ignores your pleas of “sit” or a chihuahua that thinks treats are “for the birds”). #4 – Tasty TreatsWhich leads us to tasty treats…What other photographer carries around stinky salmon-favored treats, string cheese and hamburger in their photo bag? #5 – PerspectiveI spend most of my time on the ground photographing dogs. Most of my clothes are usually covered tip-to-tail in either dirt, mud, dust, grass (and occasion dog poop- yuck!). Dogs are not at eye-level. They are at knee-or-below level (with the exception of a Great Dane which hits me at the hip). A trained pet photographer knows how to quickly crouch, army crawl, scramble up rocks, jump into streams, slide and crawl into spots to capture the best photos of your dog or cat. #6 – Secret Pet TricksHow do you get a picture of a dog with its mouth closed when it is panting on a hot day? Touch the dog’s tongue with your finger and the dog will briefly put their tongue back into their mouth. It is just enough time to snap a photo. How ’bout them apples? #7 – Poop BagsWe carry poop bags with us for “little” (hopefully little) gifts during a pet photo session. Why would you hire a pet photographer? Comments are always welcome! Thank you! If you enjoyed reading this, then please click “LIKE” or RETWEET! “I LOVE all of them!!!!!!” “How can I choose?” “Can I have ALL of them on CD?” I have heard these phrases a thousand times after people receive their pet photo online gallery. Opening your online gallery full of your edited images from your photo experience for the first time is overwhelming and exciting all wrapped up in one. Choosing one or two images out of 40+ images is no easy task (especially if 90% of them bring tears of joy and laughter!) A key concept to keep in mind is that most people FEEL that they want EVERYTHING when they first get their gallery (believe me – you are not the only one!). But what people have FOUND is that they only want a few images to display as artwork in their home. Of course, the task of choosing a few images is where lies the challenge. I recently spoke to a client who was paring down her list of images and this was her clever criteria for choosing images to purchase: #1 Is it a unique image? #2 Could I not be able to re-create this image? If you can answer “yes” to these two questions then you have a winner! She pared down 40 images to 8 images to display as artwork in her home by using this criteria. Woot! Woot! I hope this helps people in deciding how to choose images when they receive their big, beautiful online gallery in their inbox! Cheers! Looking for a pet photographer? You have come to the right place! I have spent many mornings with Doc, my Labrador at Chatfield Lake Dog Park. My ol’ girl at the ripe old age of 12 is not so interested in chasing balls in the lake anymore but these 5 dogs had a fabulous time in the water! Check it out…
