My childhood cocker spaniel, Lady was diagnosed with cancer and was immediately put down. It breaks my heart to think that she could have been with us longer if there were more medical options like there is today. Lady (and the little pink bows we used to put in her hair) will always live in my heart…

So here is where the LOVE/HATE relationship comes into play when I go on vacation….I don’t “relax” like other people. I ALWAYS think I need to be doing something PRODUCTIVE. I feel like life is so short that I need to constantly be doing something or I might miss something.

This is where I am WRONG.

Let me explain.

Here is the perfect example, I was walking on the beach with my 4 and 7 year old last week. It was 8:00am and there was a the soft glow of light on the golden beach. Waves gently crashed on my left and a wispy breeze brushed my face with the Altantic Ocean air. Picture Perfect. While this scene would envoke relaxing thoughts in most people’s brains – mine was in the complete OPPOSITE state. 

Here is a sample of my “mental theater” on the beach:
“Don’t forgot to ship books to xyz editors on friday. what if the book doesn’t arrive on friday? is the press release ready to go? what time am I suppose to get together with that awesome social media guru? maybe I should confirm that appt today? what should I blog about when I get back? blah, blah, blah…..”

To make it worst – I am PHYSICALLY showing signs of stress. My fists are clenched at my side, my shoulders are tight and raised, my teeth are grinding as I am stomping my feet along the sand. I must have looked like Frankenstein in a women’s swimsuit!

What was I doing?  I finally shake myself and say my mantra, “LIVE IN THIS MOMENT”. I then consciencely stop myself from “stressing to the max” on this beautiful beach and look over at my 4 year old daughter. She is skipping along the beach and squealing in delight as the cold waves touch her toes. She is nowhere but HERE. Her Soul, her Thoughts, her Body are “IN THIS MOMENT”.

And I was missing it.

WHY do we do this? WHY do we MISS the greatest moments of our life? Our minds move so fast. Sometimes too fast. We need to slow things down and “LIVE IN THIS MOMENT”.

So I did.

I said, “The heck with the future for right now. I want to LIVE IN THIS MOMENT”.

So I chased waves with Alex for the morning.

 I give A LOT of attention to my blog but sometimes I forget about my website (sorry website!).

I finally jumped in and updated some pics. Tossed out some oldies and added a few new favs. I removed most of the pics with names on them (i.e. Webster, Jack, Shania). I also updated the “Bark Gallery”, “Giving Back”, “Contact Us”, and “About Us” galleries with Fresh + New Pics: www.jaimerowephotography.com.

I kinda went down memory lane as I was removing some of the pics. I feel like I have had a shift in my work. Maybe more time behind the lens has enhanced the pics or maybe just more time in the post-processing end of things. Of course, sometimes I look at some pics and say “WOW!” and then I think, “Did I really take that picture?”.

I LOVE toying with new lightroom presets, photoshop actions, and just spending more time testing the limits of the sliders (contrast, exposure,vibrance, single color adjustments) with each photo.

I know a lot of photographers that batch process and I totally understand why someone would batch process (especially wedding photography). I just cannot do it. I touch and spend time with every stinkin photo I present to the client. I LOVE every photo. I *gush* on it and work with it until I have *just* what I want. I almost have a “connection” to the images that I edit. I remember *my* feeling of the moment and what I *think* the dog is feeling at that moment. I then edit the photo with these feelings and ideas mingled together.

Duke, Hobie + Tank (respectively of course).

Duke + Hobie spent most of the photo experience tackling each other, sprinting around and well…being *big dogs* on top of a snowy mountain.

Tank, the frenchie (Mr. Stinkin Cute) was more interested in chewing sticks, slipping on the ice (or running and falling through sections of the snow to keep up with the big boys), and fetching pine cones.

They are all part of a beautiful family with their devoted owners, Lindsay + Colin. Lindsay is President/CEO  of the Big Dogs Huge Paws Rescue (http://www.bigdogshugepaws.com/). Check them out – they are a rockin’ rescue that saves hundreds (maybe thousands?) of dogs and places them in warm, safe homes.

Most of our session consisted of Quinn sniffing, finding and ravenously eating goose poop (who wouldn’t?), stopping to have people say, “Is that a dog?” and more sniffing.

Quinn stole the show + my heart. Of course, Julie’s heart was stolen first with this adorable little doggie.

Ball in Mouth = Heaven

Brother + Sister united after 10.5 years! Have you heard of a yellow labrador reunion? When Liz Holzemer submitted a photo to the “Release Your Inner Snow Dog” Contest at the end of February – something in me said that this dog was special. Koufax, a yellow Labrador with a yellow tennis ball in his mouth in the snow looked *way* too much like my Doc. Maybe the first hint was the tennis ball (earlier in Doc’s life – we would have to almost surgically remove the tennis ball from Doc’s mouth).
