Sharing is in my nature (and so is eating cupcakes and kissing puppy ears). Today I share with you a magazine that I love dearly. FIDO Friendly Magazine is one of those magazines that makes you “wait by the mailbox”. 

This month was especially sweet with the “Show us your Tails” pictures that includes a chihuahua with an unusual blue tail. I showed it to Sydney, my chihuahua. He looked at me and folded his ears down like an origami swan. (I think that means “no way lady” in Chihuahua language).

I also found out that onions are not safe for dogs in the article titled “Toxic Foods”. I knew that chocolate, raisins and grapes were toxic to dogs but onions? Who knew?

My favorite article was about Charlotte Ross (cover model) and her contributions to Operation Blankets of Love. It provides blankets and toys for dogs in shelters. I remember my little Chihuahua when I first saw him in his kennel at Denver Denver Friends League Shelter. He was curled up in a little doggie bed with a long-haired chihuahua sporting a cone barking in his face. Sydney was so thin and sick. Six months later and two pounds heavier, Sydney is a happy little guy and his only concerns include barking at larger dogs (which is most dogs) that get too close to his yard and protecting his coveted “chewy” every morning from his giant Labrador sister, Doc. Life is good for our once starving shelter dog.

Cassidy, the winner of the 2010 Cover Dog Contest (presented by the Bow Wow Buddies Foundation and Mile High Dog Magazine) graces the cover of Mile High Dog Magazine this month! Cassidy was a joy to work with and a pleasure to take into a Christmas store with THOUSANDS of breakable ornaments. Not one ornament was “injured” in the making of this picture!

You can pick up your copy of Mile High Dog Magazine at your local dog groomer, vet or doggie daycare in the Greater Denver area. Kiss your furry family member for the holidays (unless you don’t like dog/cat  hair in your mouth). In that case, a good furry hug would be perfect!

Just a little sneak peak at two beautiful contestants! Hey Greta + Heidi!

I have had A LOT of e-mails about how we are going to judge the contestants. I planned on frosting 87 cupcakes and numbering (1,2,3…) then I planned on throwing them up in the air and the first 15 that land face-up will be in the Top 15…
Just kidding – I am a little hungry and “Happy Cakes” bakery is on my mind! The truth is that the online gallery of contestants has been e-mailed to a panel of judges (3 to be exact). The judges will choose their top 5 and then narrow it down to the WINNER!

The winner will be contacted in the next two weeks and I will set up a private photo session with the dog and owner. A photo from this photo session will grace the COVER OF MILE HIGH DOG MAGAZINE!

I just could not choose with all of the wonderful dogs that entered the contest so I chose to use a www.random.org a Random Number Generator. I entered in the total # of entries (13) and then I clicked ‘Generate’. It is a nifty little tool. I got the idea from www.cowbelly.com. Jamie P. used this website during another pet contest (I also attended one of her conferences back in 2008 and think the WORLD of her!).

Hudson started his life in New Jersey as a Seeing Eye dog. He has traveled all over the nation with his mom. He now works closely with his mom, Kellie at a local doggie day care, Barkly Manor http://www.barklymanor.com/. He is called the “fun police” and keeps the other dogs in line. After meeting Hudson – I can totally envision him as the “fun police”.

Hudson has a wise, warm feeling to him. He has seen a lot + been through a lot in his life. He has a sense of calm like waves on the ocean.
