Today, I had the pleasure of attending WeimFest and photographing some weimaraners that are available for adoption. If you are interested in any of these beautiful dogs them please see the Mile High Weimaraner Rescue website. The dogs pictured below are Buddy Blue, Bailey, Cappy, Shiloh and Summer.

Joyce made some awesome homemade strawberry salsa and I gulped down as much water as possible. My half marathon race was the next morning so I was struggling to keep hydrated and pumped up with carbohydrates before the race. (Post-Race Update: The Colfax Half Marathon was awesome! I struggled a little due to my runner’s knee and thought about throwing in the towel around mile 8. I kept thinking that runner’s knee is nothing compared to some athletes like Lindsey Vonn who had broken bones and still won the gold medal! I pushed through the pain and now I am swallowing advil like candy and rotating ice packs on my left knee. A small price to pay for victory!)

Back to Golden Retrievers… The Golden Retriever Rescue of the Rockies is having their annual “Back To The Future” Gala on June 18th, 2011 5-10pm. If you are interested in attending, here are the details:

“Our Bark To The Future black tie Gala is being held to raise funds for our permanent facility. Tickets are $250 per person and all proceeds from this event will help to turn the despair of homeless Goldens into hope and happiness. 

Through the generous gifts of donors within our organization, we have recently purchased a 5 acre parcel of land in NW Jefferson County. Imagine a facility with a senior living center, isolation for dogs coming into GRRR from shelters, a rehabilitation area for dogs who have just undergone surgery and an event center where we can hold membership events and training. Imagine a home for Goldens who desperately need to figure out how to live inside because they’ve always lived alone in a backyard. That steady stream of sweet Goldens that we know are on their way to us will have play areas, human contact, and will finally know what it’s like to fetch, play tug-of war and just have fun.

A memorable evening awaits you at the Cherokee Ranch and Castle. 

Valet transportation will deliver you to a red carpet entry where some of our Golden “ambassadors” will escort you into the cocktail reception.

Music presented by Cheza String Quartet will serenade you while you enjoy the breathtaking views from high upon the front range hills. ….

Tours of the castle provided from 5:30 – 6:30pm by Castle docents.

Silent Auction presented inside the Castle for browsing and bidding.

Epicurean Catering has prepared a delicious dinner menu of succulent beef and chicken accompanied by CruVin Dogs wine. Vegetarian meals can be requested at time of registration.

In 2009, I was following Kyla and her Happy Tails Books Website for several months. I always envisioned her in Florida or some warm place. I contacted her and found out that she was in my backyard! I was pleasantly surprised to have such a great “dog storyteller” and advocate for rescue dogs so close. I then met her at BlogPaws in September 2010 and was floored by her aerial dancing and beautiful spirit. I mean really…..how many people do aerial dancing? Not many and Kyla makes it look easy.

Kyla is combining  her aerial dance expertise with dog rescue stories in an amazing event this Saturday night (Feb. 12th) in Boulder at the Dairy Center for the Arts @ 7:30pm. You can buy tickets here.

I will also be giving away a FREE Survivors Book (retail $25) for the first 50 people through the door. Come early to this inspirational event!

Cassidy, the winner of the 2010 Cover Dog Contest (presented by the Bow Wow Buddies Foundation and Mile High Dog Magazine) graces the cover of Mile High Dog Magazine this month! Cassidy was a joy to work with and a pleasure to take into a Christmas store with THOUSANDS of breakable ornaments. Not one ornament was “injured” in the making of this picture!

You can pick up your copy of Mile High Dog Magazine at your local dog groomer, vet or doggie daycare in the Greater Denver area. Kiss your furry family member for the holidays (unless you don’t like dog/cat  hair in your mouth). In that case, a good furry hug would be perfect!

Also, a big thank you goes out to Jaime Rowe who created a beautiful book called “Survivors – Your Best Friend’s Journey with Cancer”using dog’s that have benefited from the work of the CSU Animal Cancer Center in Fort Collins.  Jaime has been tirelessly promoting the book around town and has sold 91 books in August and September at local events, her website, etc.
 
She is mailing the foundation a total of $1,246 from the sales of the book for the past two month and we could not be more honored to have her help in raising funds for this very important part of the Foundation’s Mission.  Each book is sold for $25.00 and she then provides us with about $10 for each book to help fund our program.  She also held a photo contest at the K-9’s Against Cancer Race that raised $344, the lucky dog that won will get the front cover of Mile High Dog Magazine!
